Arrange access to a toilet and shower before work starts on your home's only bathroom. Your contractor can then plan the work around a practical arrangement for everyone who lives there.
Bathroom access during the remodel
Walk through a normal day at home, starting with the first person who wakes up. Include overnight toilet trips and anyone who needs help bathing. A relative's bathroom works only if you can reach it at the hours your household needs it.
Plan shower access separately. A gym may cover morning showers during its opening hours. Staying with family changes the commute and the daily routine. If you rent a portable restroom, ask the rental company about placement and service, then check how everyone will reach it after dark.
When fixtures come out
Ask your contractor when the toilet must come out and what work needs to happen before it returns. The answer depends on the scope and what the crew finds after opening the room. Put the expected access for each phase in the work schedule, then update it as work progresses.
A finished-looking shower may still need time before use. Ask the crew when the waterproofing, grout, sealant, and plumbing work will allow the shower to reopen. Wait for a clear go-ahead before using it.
Find out whether plumbing work will shut off water elsewhere in the house. Advance notice lets you plan laundry and fill drinking-water containers. The crew should also confirm when it is safe to enter the work area.
Decisions and deliveries before demolition
Settle the room layout before demolition, especially choices that move plumbing. Ask which decisions affect the order of work. Moving the toilet changes the work needed to reconnect it and restore household access.
Check the order status of materials needed to finish the room. A delivery estimate differs from a confirmed arrival. Have someone inspect boxes for the right size and visible damage before installation day.
Choose who will approve changes if the crew finds damaged framing or another hidden issue. Give the contractor a reliable way to reach that person during work hours. Ask how added work and any change to the schedule will be documented.

Ask whether measurements or other preparation can happen while the bathroom remains usable. Discuss evening access directly. A toilet can return only when its plumbing connection and the floor beneath it are ready.
Share school departure times and other fixed commitments with the contractor. Someone who works from home beside the bathroom may need another workspace during noisy work. Keep your temporary bathroom arrangement until the crew confirms the fixtures are ready.
Dust and daily updates
Choose the crew's route through the house before materials arrive. Ask where floor protection will go and how the work area will be separated from occupied rooms. Empty the bathroom before demolition and keep clean towels outside the work path.
Agree on one contact method for schedule changes and decisions. Request an update whenever expected toilet or shower access changes. That gives you time to adjust a booking or arrange another night away.
A Boxwood customer described working with Dave and his team:
"Absolute pleasure to work with. Dave and his team exceeded expectations and completed on time-even after I added additional work to their scope. He listens to what you want (and always answers the phone) and works with you to make sure you are happy and satisfied as the project progresses. He doesn't do the job just to get it done. He does the work he can be proud of and stands behind the quality and workmanship."
